Frequently Asked Questions

Does my child need any special equipment to play?

Nope. Soccer Shots provides all necessary equipment. All we ask is that your child wears closed toe shoes and weather and athletic appropriate clothes. No cleats or shin guards are required.

Where can my child participate in Soccer Shots?

Soccer Shots operates programs at two types of locations: schools and parks. Park programs are open to the public and happen at parks all over town. School classes are open only to children enrolled at that school.

How do I register my child for a Soccer Shots class?

It’s easy to register online by visiting http://pdx.soccershots.org. Select the best class for your child and hit the Register Now button.

How do I find the most convenient class for my family?

You can see a list of all our park classes by clicking on the Register Now button on the left hand side of our website or by clicking on this link http://pdx.soccershots.org/. We have also created an Interactive Google map that may help you find the best location for you. You can see this map below or find it on our home page and on the register now page.

My child has never done a group sports class before and I'm not sure they are ready. Is there a way for us to try you out before registering?

While we cannot let you try a class for free before registering, we do have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. We know that sometimes our young players are not quite ready for a group class, so if this happens to your child, we can refund you for the remaining classes.

Can I start a Soccer Shots program at my child’s school?

If you think a Soccer Shots class would be a great addition to your child’s school, email us at joel@soccershots.org with the name of your child’s school and who we should talk to. We will contact them and do our best to get a program started.

Can I start a park program near me?

Yes! All you need is a park suggestion and at least 5 friends. Email joel@soccershots.org with your request.

Do you cancel classes due to weather?

We are tough Oregon soccer players so we play year round, rain or shine. However, if it is below 40 degrees and raining, we may cancel class. If your child’s class is canceled, you will receive a phone call and email from Soccer Shots letting you know. We also post canceled classes on our Facebook page so Like Us to stay up-to-date about class schedules.

How do you make up classes that are canceled due to weather?

Soccer Shots makes every available effort to make up any class that we miss due to weather. Typically a class is added on to the end of the season. If this is not possible, we will hold a make up day at some point during the season.

How long are Soccer Shots classes?

Soccer Shots Classic (Ages 3-5) & Minis (Ages 2-3) classes are 30-35 minutes of high energy, skill development, and fun. Our Premier Classes (K-2nd Grade) last 45 minutes.

What should I expect from a Soccer Shots session?

Soccer Shots classes are fun, high energy soccer classes that focus on soccer skills development and character building lessons. Each week, we have a character word and skill that the session is built around. Children that participate in Soccer Shots classes can expect to see improved gross motor development, as well as have a lot of fun while building a foundation of a healthy lifestyle at a young age.

What if my child would be a better fit for an older or younger age group? Can we move them accordingly?

We know that at this young age children develop very differently. We also know that some children are coming to us with more experience than others so we like to be flexible and work with parents to find the best fit for their child. If you feel like your child would be better suited in a different age group, talk to your coach, Joel, or Leslie and we will do our best to move your child to a better fit.

What happens if not enough children sign up for the class I am registered for?

We hate canceling classes. It’s our least favorite thing, however classes of 1-2 kids just aren’t as fun as classes of 5+ kids. If this happens to you, we will do our best to find another class that will work for you and your child. To ensure this doesn’t happen, let your friends know you registered for a Soccer Shots class. Soccer is always more fun when played with friends!

If we miss a class, can we make it up at a different location?

Our park classes are often full, so we cannot allow for make-up classes. We also believe that make-up classes are often overwhelming for children because it is a different coach, location, and kids than their regular class. Missing one or two weeks in a season will not have any effect on how much fun your child has or how much they learn. We review each new skill at the beginning of class, so this gives them a chance to learn what they missed the week before.
