Global Goals and the U.S. Soccer Foundation
At Soccer Shots we believe that soccer is a powerful vehicle for positively impacting youth. In 2011, we became a proud partner with the U.S. Soccer Foundation.
The U.S. Soccer Foundation’s programs are designed to keep kids active and healthy. They guide children away from negative influences by providing them with safe and healthy places to play after school – the most dangerous hours of the day. Players receive attention and support from caring mentors and coaches who work to ensure that they develop into healthy and successful young adults. The Foundation is working to build safe playing fields and bring the Soccer For Success model to economically disadvantaged communities nationwide.
Through our partnership, we aim to raise funds and awareness for children who live in these underserved communities throughout the U.S. so that they have convenient and affordable access to quality soccer programs that support their physical and personal development.
In 2011 and 2012, local Soccer Shots operators donated a portion of each child’s registration fee to Global Goals/U.S. Soccer Foundation to build SportCourt playing surfaces at the B.R.I.C.K. Avon Academy in Newark, NJ, and Madrid Middle School in El Monte, CA. Children at both schools are now able to participate in the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s Soccer for Success program on those surfaces. This program not only teaches children soccer skills, it also provides a positive mentoring experience with coaches.
In 2013, Global Goals fundraising was redirected toward the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s annual Urban Soccer Symposium. The Urban Soccer Symposium hosts urban soccer programmers and speakers from across the nation who are dedicated to improving the field of sports-based youth development.
Presented by Soccer Shots, the 2015 Urban Soccer Symposium was the largest Symposium to date. Over 200 attendees gathered in Washington, D.C. to hear keynote speakers, including US WNT player, Ali Krieger, and learn from representatives of notable organizations including Ashoka, Mass Mentoring Partnership, NSCAA, and Soccer Across America. Soccer Shots Global Goals has served as the presenting sponsor of the Symposium for the past three years and has proudly extended the annual sponsorship for three more years.
Since inception, Global Goals has donated over $100,000 in funding to build mini-pitches and support soccer programs and has recently committed to building a mini-pitch in at least one economically disadvantaged community for the next three years.
How You Can Score a Global Goal
There are many ways you can get involved in Global Goals and extend the reach using the game of soccer:
Buy a Ball. Each November – mid-December we sell Soccer Shots branded soccer balls to raise funds and awareness for the Global Goals and our partners. Buying a $20 soccer ball gives a child in a Soccer for Success program the opportunity to play. It’s a win for everyone: buy a ball, give a ball!
Be a Coach. Local Soccer Shots directors and Soccer for Success directors are always looking for enthusiastic coaches who care about children and want to make a positive impact. Check out the Soccer Shots and Soccer for Success locations in your area for more information about how to connect.
Donate. Donating to Global Goals makes an immediate impact on the youth we serve through our partnership with the U.S. Soccer Foundation. These funds are given to local Soccer for Success leaders to help them grow their local programs and give back to the communities they serve.
Be an advocate. Tell your friends, relatives, and kids about the Global Goals mission and how to join the team. And if you’re unsure how, just ask! Email email@example.com for more information.
