Matthew VanBenschoten

Matthew VanBenschoten

Lead Coach

Minnetonka native, Matt have been coaching since 2009 when he started as an assistant coach at Bethel University, while earning his master’s degree. Matt currently works at Fusion Soccer Club as the U10-U13 boys age group coordinator. Matt is also head coach for Minneapolis City SC, a semi-professional team based in the Twin Cities. Matt played for Tonka United and Wayzata High School before playing for Bethel University. Matt holds a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Bethel Seminary.

Nate Lung

Nate Lung

Level 1 Coach

Brooklyn Park native, Nate has been coaching since 2014 when he started at the Brooklyn Park Recreation program. Nate also coaches for Force Soccer Club and Southwest Christian High School in his spare time. Nate played for Osseo High School and The University of Northwestern-St. Paul. Nate has a Computer Science degree with a minor in Mathematics from The University of Northwestern-St. Paul.

Katie Opsahl-Lister

Katie Opsahl-Lister

Level 1 Coach

St. Paul native, Katie began coaching in 2008 while in college. Katie’s coaching background includes coaching a youth team in Kenya, Junior Varsity at Como Park and Soccer Shots. Katie played for Twin Cities Fire Soccer Club, Como High School, and various women’s leagues in the Twin Cities and Madison. Katie earned two Bachelor of Arts’ degrees from The University of Wisconsin-Madison, one in Political Science and one in History.

Christopher Foreman

Level 1 Coach

Rosemount native, Chris comes to Soccer Shots following a 20-year career as an Army Ranger and officer in the Army. Chris is currently the goalkeeper and assistant coach at St. John’s University. Prior to moving to Minnesota, Chris coached for Richmond Hill Soccer Club in Richmond Hill, Georgia. Chris played for Rosemount High School, Minnesota ODP, Blackhawks Soccer Club, and St. John’s University before playing semi-professionally across the Midwest.

Jennifer Fondakowski

Jennifer Fondakowski

Level 1 Coach

Maple Grove native, Coach Jen has been with Soccer Shots since 2018.  She currently plays soccer for the Minnesota Thunder Academy and previously has played for the Maplebrook Soccer Association and on the Varsity team at Maple Grove Senior High.  In addition to coaching Soccer, Jen has lots of experiencing with kids through babysitting and nanny jobs which she has done since she was 14 years old.
