Inspired by a passion for working with children through education and youth sports, Derek Tate founded Soccer Shots Santa Barbara in the Spring of 2019. Derek has experience working as a high school admissions director and as a coach and he currently owns a boutique youth sports business in San Francisco. His wife Candice, and their dog Cooper, enjoy art, food and going on local adventures as well as traveling the world. Fun Fact – Derek was a professional baseball player in the Toronto Blue Jays Organization from 2004-2006!
Omid has been in love with soccer since his brother taught him how to play and has played both recreationally and competitively since he was 4! Now as a student at UCSB where he studies biology, Omid plays on the Men’s Club Soccer Team. Over the years, Omid has accrued a vast amount of experience serving as a head coach for his old high school team and for competitive club soccer teams as well. In his free time, he enjoys watching and supporting his favorite teams Arsenal and the Philadelphia Eagles with a fiery passion. Fun Fact- Omid’s favorite soccer player is Paul Scholes of Manchester United!

Growing up in San Jose, California, Troy enjoyed the privilege of watching the spectacular Landon Donovan at Earthquake games throughout his childhood. Up until last year, Troy has worked in after school and children’s summer camp programs every year since the age of 17! Currently, he studies Economics at UCSB. In his free time, Troy enjoys flinging tortillas at UCSB soccer games and supporting the USA Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams. Fun Fact- Troy has hiked Half Dome in Yosemite and plans to do Machu Picchu next!
Partner Service Coordinator
Born in Sacramento Kahyla has spent a majority of her life playing soccer. During her time at American River College she participated on both the women’s soccer and cross country teams. Over the past 6.5 years of coaching she has developed her coaching skills with an emphasis in the 2-3 year old age group. She joined our Soccer Shots franchise 8 months ago, because of our shared passion for developing a well rounded soccer player through a positive learning experience. As a student at UCSB with a major in BioPsychology and minor in Applied Psychology she hopes to pursue a career working with children that have autism. Fun Fact- Kahyla is working to become fluent in American Sign Language!
