Coach Landon

Coach Landon

Exective Director

Background: After years of coaching high school, college, and club soccer, Landon started Soccer Shots Southwest Virginia in 2014. He played soccer at Hampden-Sydney College before becoming an English teacher in Roanoke City Public Schools. He received a masters degree from the Virginia Commonwealth University’s Center for Sport Leadership. In addition to Soccer Shots, Landon currently serves as the technical director of Star City Soccer Academy and director of the Star City Soccer Foundation. He and his wife, Meredith, have a little boy named Mac.

Soccer: Landon began playing soccer in the backyard chasing around all of his older siblings. He grew up playing with Roanoke Star and then Patrick Henry High School before Hampden-Sydney College.

Other Interests/Hobbies: Landon’s favorite things, besides spending time with his family, outside of soccer are mountain biking and skiing.

Wildcard: Legend has it, Landon did not start talking until he was four years old.

Tori Doyle

Tori Doyle

Director - Roanoke Area

Background: Coach Tori was born in Colorado Springs but has spent most of her life in Roanoke. She studied communication and minored in athletic coaching at Bluefield College. Tori has three brothers and two sisters.

Soccer: Tori played soccer at Bluefield College, serving as team captain from 2014-16. She has played the sport ever since she was three. She holds USSF E and F coaching licenses.

Other Interests/Hobbies: Tori also enjoys playing and coaching basketball in addition to soccer. Outside of sports, she likes snowboarding, playing the guitar, and spending time with her family.

Wildcard: Coach Tori loves traveling. In addition to many places in the U.S., she has been to Ireland, Germany, Netherlands, and Switzerland.

Coach Blake

Coach - Lynchburg area

Background: Coach Blake is a liberty student from Old Town, Maine. She is studying to be an English teacher and has experience working in child care.

Soccer: Blake has played soccer her entire life and still plays for recreational purposes.

Other Interests/Hobbies: Blake likes to hike and kayak. She was a serious tennis player growing up.

Wildcard: Blake is certified to run a zip line.

Coach Brandi

Coach Brandi

Coach - Roanoke area

Background: Coach Brandi was a multi-sport athlete at Rural Retreat High School. Brandi is a certified personal trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine, and a certified American Red Cross lifeguard, first aid, and AED. She is currently earning a degree in criminal justice.

Soccer: Brandi played soccer as a little tyke from ages 5-10 before competing in softball, volleyball, and track.

Other Interests/Hobbies: Brandi is a competitive body builder and obstacle course racer (Spartan, mud runs, etc).

Wildcard: Brandi was a sponsored Spartan racer before an ankle injury sidelined her.

Coach Diego

Coach - New River Valley Area

Background: Coach Diego is from Fairfax, Virginia, but his family is Peruvian. He went to Robinson Secondary School and currently attends Virginia Tech where he is a double major in physics and math.

Soccer: Diego has played soccer since he could walk. He played on lots of teams growing up and even refereed for a year. He is a fan of the game and watches a lot of games on tv.

Other Interests/Hobbies: Diego likes most sports and research that is related to his academic studies.

Wildcard: Diego is bilingual in English and Spanish.

Coach Ricky

Coach - Roanoke Area

Background: Coach Ricky is from Low Moor, Va and is an only child. He received his EMT-B certification from Dabney S. Lancaster and is a certified soccer referee.

Soccer: Ricky played soccer for twelve years through high school and club. He served as an assistant coach for two years with Alleghany Club Soccer.

Other interests/hobbies: Ricky has a passion for fashion. He enjoys making clothing/fashion and modeling in his free time.

Wildcard: Ricky began undergrad research for C/Dtm 1 and neurodegenerative diseases during sophomore year.

Coach Hannah

Coach Hannah

Coach - New River Area

Background: Coach Hannah was born in Boston, Ma and grew up in Blacksburg, Va with two older brothers and a younger sister. She attended Radford University.

Soccer: Hannah has played soccer her entire life. She played for NRU as well as Blacksburg High School as a center defender. She continued playing adult league soccer until becoming a mom.

Other interests/hobbies: Hannah enjoys long distance running and spending time with her family in the outdoors. She has a passion for working with young children and encouraging them to live healthy and active lifestyles.

Wildcard: Hannah is a New England sports fan

Coach Mckenzie

Coach Mckenzie

Coach - Roanoke Area

Background: Coach Mckenzie is originally from Lexington, Va. She has one brother and one sister. She graduated from Northside High School and is now attending Paul Mitchell.

Soccer: Mckenzie has been playing soccer since she was seven. She played with Roanoke Star for three years and was a member of her varsity team for three years.

Other interests/hobbies: Coach Mckenzie enjoys photography and volunteering at Angels of Assisi in her free time.

Wildcard: Mckenzie is left-handed.

Coach Anna Gray

Coach Anna Gray

Coach - Lynchburg Area

Background: Coach Anna Gray is from Lynchburg, Va. She is pursuing a degree in physical education at the University of Lynchburg.

Soccer: Anna Gray played soccer throughout high school. She currently coaches at Lynchburg as well as Heritage High School.

Other interests/hobbies: Anna Gray enjoys cycling, running and lifting in her free time. She has passions for P.E. and theology.

Wildcard: Anna Gray has had two ACL reconstructions.

Coach Jordan

Coach - Roanoke Area

Background: Coach Jordan is living in Roanoke, Va. He attended Lancaster Bible College.

Soccer: Jordan has played soccer since he was seven. In high school, his team won two state championships. He also played one year in college.

Other interests/hobbies: Jordan loves all sports, eating, playing guitar and drums and attending church. He has a passion for sharing his love of sports with kids.

Wildcard: Coach Jordan once ate 23 pieces of pizza in one sitting after a high school soccer game.

Coach Mary Grace

Coach - Lynchburg

Background: Coach Mary Grace is originally from Walhalla, SC. She is a middle child with one older brother and one younger sister. She is studying business management and marketing at Liberty University.

Soccer: Mary Grace has played soccer since she was little. She played club soccer throughout middle and high school and was a four-year member of her varsity soccer team. She currently plays intramurals at Liberty while coaching a 10u team at the YMCA.

Other interests/hobbies: Mary Grace loves the outdoors, playing basketball and spending time with her puppy.

Wildcard: Mary Grace was born on her dads birthday.

Coach Angela

Coach - New River Area

Background: Angela is originally from Roanoke, Va where she graduated from Hidden Valley High School. She is a junior at Virginia Tech studying Human, Nutrition, Food and Exercise.

Soccer: Coach Angela played for Valley AFC from U12 to U15 and was a member of her high school junior varsity team for two years.

Other interests/hobbies: Angela enjoys playing tennis in her free time.

Wildcard: Coach Angela once ate four slices of Benny’s pizza in one sitting.

Coach Ryan

Coach - New River Area

Background: Coach Ryan is from Ashburn, Va. He is currently studying at Virginia Tech.

Soccer: Ryan played for Loudoun Soccer. He went on to coach for Loudoun Soccer but now coaches for New River United. He holds his USSF E Coaching License and completed a player-centric coaching course with Deakin University.

Other interests/hobbies: Coach Ryan enjoys watching all different sports and listening to music in his free time.

Wildcard: His favorite team is Manchester United.

Coach Adam

Coach - Roanoke Area

Background: Coach Adam was born and raised in Buchanan, Va where he attended James River High School. He received is degree in fine art and a minor in education at Roanoke College. He is currently pursuing his masters at Radford University.

Soccer: Adam has played soccer since he was four. He was a captain in high school and received recognition as an all-regional player. He went on to play at Roanoke College.

Other interests/hobbies: Adam enjoys weight training, running and anything art related.

Wildcard: Coach Adam is left-handed but ambidextrous with his feet.

Coach Brandon

Coach Brandon

Coach - Roanoke Area

Background: Coach Brandon grew up in Roanoke, Va. He graduated from Liberty University in 2017 where he received a B.S. in Criminal Justice. He is working to become a police officer.

Soccer: Brandon grew up playing rec soccer and currently coaches Upward soccer as well. He holds his USSF F Coaching License.

Other interests/hobbies: Brandon enjoys working with the youth group at his church and has a passion for law enforcement.

Wildcard: Coach Brandon played a pickup game with a European soccer team when he traveled to England.
