Coach Landon

Coach Landon

Exective Director

Background: After years of coaching high school, college, and club soccer, Landon started Soccer Shots Southwest Virginia in 2014. He played soccer at Hampden-Sydney College before becoming an English teacher in Roanoke City Public Schools. He received a masters degree from the Virginia Commonwealth University’s Center for Sport Leadership. In addition to Soccer Shots, Landon currently serves as the technical director of Star City Soccer Academy and director of the Star City Soccer Foundation. He and his wife, Meredith, have a little boy named Mac.

Soccer: Landon began playing soccer in the backyard chasing around all of his older siblings. He grew up playing with Roanoke Star and then Patrick Henry High School before Hampden-Sydney College.

Other Interests/Hobbies: Landon’s favorite things, besides spending time with his family, outside of soccer are mountain biking and skiing.

Wildcard: Legend has it, Landon did not start talking until he was four years old.

Tori Doyle

Tori Doyle

Director - Roanoke Area

Background: Coach Tori was born in Colorado Springs but has spent most of her life in Roanoke. She studied communication and minored in athletic coaching at Bluefield College. Tori has three brothers and two sisters.

Soccer: Tori played soccer at Bluefield College, serving as team captain from 2014-16. She has played the sport ever since she was a little toddler. She holds USSF E and F coaching licenses.

Other Interests/Hobbies: Tori also enjoys playing and coaching basketball in addition to soccer. Outside of sports, she likes playing the guitar, hiking, and spending time with her family.

Wildcard: Tori’s favorite food is sushi.

Coach Megan

Director - Lynchburg Area

Background: Coach Megan grew up in Lynchburg playing lots of sports throughout her youth including soccer, gymnastics, basketball, cross-country, and track. Since graduating from Liberty University, Megan has gained experience in childcare settings and in youth coaching, and she is a certified trainer.

Soccer: Megan played soccer for five years as she was growing up.

Other Interests/Hobbies: Megan is an avid runner and has coached cross country for Liberty Christian Academy and with the Girls On the Run program. She also enjoys working with children challenged with autism. In her spare time, she plays piano and guitar.

Wildcard: Megan loves country music.

Coach Clarens

Coach Clarens

Lead Coach

Background: Coach Clarens grew up in Saint-Mark, Haiti until his family moved to Roanoke when he was starting high school. He is a graduate of Emory and Henry College.

Soccer: Even before he graduated from college, Clarens had several years of head coaching experience at the high school level (Staunton River and Abingdon). He is the JV Head Coach at Cave Spring. He also has many years of youth academy experience with Roanoke Star Academy and currently Star City Soccer Academy.

Other Interests/Hobbies: Clarens has traveled abroad three times for Habitat for Humanity projects. He loves singing and writing. As a boy in Haiti, he starred in a movie.

Wildcard: Clarens can speak three languages.

Coach Andrew

Coach - Roanoke area

Background: Coach Andrew graduated from Patrick Henry High School and currently attends Virginia Western where he studies environmental science. He grew up in Botetourt and Roanoke and played four sports in high school.

Soccer: Andrew played soccer as a boy, and he loves coaching children to play. He has been a Soccer Shots coach for two years.

Other Hobbies/Interests: Andrew loves the outdoors, and he enjoys hiking, hunting, and fishing.

Wildcard: Andrew’s favorite tv show is Spongbob Square Pants.

Coach Angela

Coach Angela

Coach - Roanoke area

Background: Coach Angela grew up in Geneva, Ohio before moving to Toccoa Falls, Georgia. She has a music and theater background and has three boys of her own. She has classroom experience working as a paraprofessional in a primary school setting.

Soccer: Angela played intramural soccer at Toccoa Falls College and coached recreational soccer with her son’s team.

Other Interests/Hobbies: Angela’s hobbies include training for Spartan races, music, laundry/dishes, and mowing 🙂

Wilcard: Angela got her Spartan Trifecta this year.

Coach Blake

Coach - Lynchburg area

Background: Coach Blake is a liberty student from Old Town, Maine. She is studying to be an English teacher and has experience working in child care.

Soccer: Blake has played soccer her entire life and still plays for recreational purposes.

Other Interests/Hobbies: Blake likes to hike and kayak. She was a serious tennis player growing up.

Wildcard: Blake is certified to run a zip line.

Coach Brandi

Coach Brandi

Coach - Roanoke area

Background: Coach Brandi was a multi-sport athlete at Rural Retreat High School. Brandi is a certified personal trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine, and a certified American Red Cross lifeguard, first aid, and AED. She is currently earning a degree in criminal justice.

Soccer: Brandi played soccer as a little tyke from ages 5-10 before competing in softball, volleyball, and track.

Other Interests/Hobbies: Brandi is a competitive body builder and obstacle course racer (Spartan, mud runs, etc).

Wildcard: Brandi was a sponsored Spartan racer before an ankle injury sidelined her.

Coach Diego

Coach Diego

Coach - New River Valley Area

Background: Coach Diego is from Fairfax, Virginia, but his family is Peruvian. He went to Robinson Secondary School and currently attends Virginia Tech where he is a double major in physics and math.

Soccer: Diego has played soccer since he could walk. He played on lots of teams growing up and even refereed for a year. He is a fan of the game and watches a lot of games on tv.

Other Interests/Hobbies: Diego likes most sports and research that is related to his academic studies.

Wildcard: Diego is bilingual in English and Spanish.

Coach Jade

Coach Jade

Coach - Lynchburg area

Background: Coach Jade moved to Lynchburg from Indiana where she attended Purdue University and studied Applied Exercise Science. She has more than ten years of formal experience working with toddlers and children, and she is an American Council on Fitness Youth Fitness Specialist.

Soccer: Jade has lots of experience in athletics including as a coach for softball, basketball, volleyball, and gymnastics.

Other Interests/Hobbies: Jade is also a TRX, barre, and cycling instructor at a fitness studio.

Wildcard: Jade loves hiking and being outdoors.

Coach Sarah

Coach - New River Valley Area

Background: Coach Sarah is from Manassas and attends Virginia Tech as a pre-vet major. She has plans of continuing to vet school after graduation. Sarah has taught swim lessons for four years. She is swim instructor certified and Red Cross first aid certified.

Soccer: Sarah grew up play recreation soccer before advancing to a travel team. She played eight years of travel and four years of high school, mostly as a central defender.

Other Interests/Hobbies: Sarah loves hiking and being outdoors. She loves being with her dogs. She continues to play intramural soccer and also plays volleyball for fun.

Wildcard: Sarah can wiggle her nose.

Coach Scottie

Coach - New River Valley Area

Background: Coach Scottie was born and raised in Blue Ridge, Virginia. She graduated from Lord Botetourt High School in 2014 and currently attends Virginia Tech.

Soccer: In addition to playing high school soccer, Scottie played travel soccer for Roanoke Star.

Other Interests/Hobbies: Scottie enjoys going to the movies, exercising, blogging, and music/concerts.

Wildcard: Scottie used to be a cheerleader.

Coach Connor

Coach - New River Valley Area

Background: Coach Connor grew up in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. He is an environmental policy major with minors in geology and Italian at Virginia Tech. Connor has coached special needs children for four years in the TOPS soccer program in his hometown.

Soccer: Connor has played soccer since he was 3 years old. He served as captain of his high school team.

Other Interests/Hobbies: Connor enjoys traveling, photography, and water polo.

Wildcard: Connor has been to 14 countries.

Coach Xavier

Coach - Roanoke area

Background: Coach Xavier is from Quito, Ecuador where he received has undergrad and masters degrees from Universidad Tecnologica Equinoccial. During that time, he also took courses

Soccer: Xavier played soccer growing up in Ecuador.

Other Interests/Hobbies: Xavier loves working with children.

Wildcard: Xavier moved to Roanoke with his wife after they met when she was studying abroad in Ecuador.
